Store What You Use

Monitor what your family eats for a week and use that as a guideline for building up your food storage. The advantage of doing this, you will learn what your family likes so that you can shop accordingly. You would be surprised at how many people think they know what they need but is different then actually what they eat.

Build As You Go

On this list, we did not include flour or even wheat. Unless you know how to make things from scratch in a crisis or have a wheat grinder to grind the wheat, having these items is almost completely useless. As you build your food storage and start to experiment on making your own recipes you can add these items as needed.

Storage Is The Key

The enemies of food storage are temperature, moisture, oxygen, light, pests and time. Remember, your food storage needs to be stored in a  cool, dry place. The right conditions will improve the storage life of all your food. Rotate your food often and replace with new foods on the shelf.
